Spring ISD parents and families looking to get the 2019-20 school year off to a strong start are invited to attend the district's 2019 Back to School Expo, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, at Dekaney High School.

The event will feature a family resource fair, free immunizations and other health and wellness resources, plus back-to-school giveaways to help make sure students are ready for the start of the new school year on Aug. 14.

The event is especially designed for families who will be new to the district for 2019-20, although Spring ISD Parent Engagement Director Tranita Carroll emphasized that all students and their families are welcome. "This is just a great opportunity for our families to come and meet campus and district employees and learn what we have to offer in our district and in our community," Carroll said.

The event will include staff from each of the district's elementary, middle and high school campuses together with representatives from a range of local agencies and community groups, including healthcare organizations, Scouting groups, the Houston Public Library, Texas WIC and others offering services and programs to benefit Spring ISD students and their families. Rounding out the expo will be free school supplies and other giveaways, as well as free haircuts for students, courtesy of longtime district partner Mystros Barber Shop.

In a change for this year's event, new district parents are being asked to complete the online registration process beforehand. Supporting documents - including birth certificates, proof of residency in Spring ISD and student immunization records - may be submitted at the expo, but the main registration process will move online, a first this year as the district works to streamline and simplify the registration process for its families. - www.springisd.org/re gister

Students in need of immunizations should bring a copy of their current immunization record to make sure they get the shots they need. For more information about the Back to School Expo, contact Carroll at 281-891-6019 or [email protected].
