Spring ISD has delayed the reopening of its schools to Monday, Sept. 11 in the aftermath of Harvey because of ongoing concerns about its impact on staff and students.
The new date is intended to give families more time to deal with the challenges of recovering from the storm, which has led to unprecedented losses across the greater Houston region.
While students won’t return until Sept. 11, all Spring ISD employees will return to work starting on Thursday, Sept. 7.
“We want to get our students back into the classrooms as soon as possible to help provide the first step toward normalcy,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Rodney Watson. “We know how important the routine of a school day will be to helping our families heal and recover, but we also need to ensure our teachers and staff are ready, and they too are dealing with the loss of their homes and belongings.”
To assist impacted staff and families, the Spring ISD Education Foundation has established a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund to accept monetary donations. All of the donations will be distributed via small grants to those in need. Tax-deductible donations can be made to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund by going to the Spring ISD Education Foundation website at give2springkids.org/ and clicking on the button Hurricane Harvey Donation.
