Lone Star College-North Harris student Marie Heron believes returning to school and completing an education is always beneficial.

After several attempts to complete her education after dropping out of high school, Heron achieved her dream of earning her Texas Certification Equivalency from LSC-North Harris in December 2018.

"I hope that anybody who is looking to go back and get their education chooses to do so no matter their age or the obstacles life has thrown their way," she said. "I'm grateful to Lone Star College-North Harris for helping me to reach my goals."

Heron completed the LSC-North Harris Texas Certification Equivalency program in less than a year and is now enrolled in the Patient Care Technician Program on campus. Her inspiring story was shared at LSC-North Harris' spring 2019 Texas Certification Equivalency ceremony this May, where she was selected as the student speaker.

"I had really great teachers throughout the GED program," she said. "They always had kind words and were willing to help anyway they could, as long as I was willing to put in the effort.

The LSC-North Harris High School Equivalency Program is designed for adults who left high school before graduation and are now interested in obtaining a Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency (TxCHSE) by passing the General Educational Development (GED®) official test.

The GED® test in one of three tests used to measure high school equivalency skills. Approved by the State Board of Education and Texas Education Agency, a passing grade on the GED® test provides students with high school equivalency credentials.

"Things can happen that can make life go unplanned," said Christina Boutte, director of Continuing Education. "However, students returning to school to receive their GED can look forward to teachers invested in their success and administrators on campus that will help them as they pursue educational opportunities after completing our program."

The LSC-North Harris High School Equivalency Program assists adults in getting ready in the four GED® test subject matter areas: mathematical reasoning, reasoning through the language arts, social studies and science.

The High School Equivalency Program is offered in English (GED® Full Review) or in Spanish (GED® Revisión en Español). After completion of the program, students are expected to take and pass the computer-based GED® test. All students obtaining their TxCHSE will be invited to participate at the LSC-North Harris graduation ceremony held every spring.
