According to reports from PCT 4, on October 12, 2019, a deputy with Constable Mark Herman's Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1800 block of Briarcreek Boulevard. The driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit. The driver fled at a high rate of speed and the deputy lost sight of the vehicle.
A short time later, deputies responded to the 290 block of Bammel Westfield in reference to an auto pedestrian crash involving the same vehicle that evaded from them. Upon deputies arriving, it was discovered that the driver was traveling East at a high rate of speed in the West bound lanes when he struck a bicyclist. The male victim was transported to a local hospital by Life Flight in critical condition.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot but was detained by witnesses who observed the crash. Constable Deputies took custody of the suspect and identified him as Geovany Carizalez who was found to be in possession of .54 grams of Methamphetmine and had a open Blue Warrant for a Parole Violation through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Geovany Carizalez displayed signs of intoxication but refused to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. A warrant was issued to obtain a specimen of his blood.
He was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Aggravated Assault, Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Fail to Stop and Render Aid with Serious Bodily Injury.
"Geovany Canizalez received No Bond for Evading and Possession of a Controlled Substance, a $5,000.00 bond for Fail to Stop and Render Aid and a $40,000.00 bond for the Aggravated Assault charge out of the 177th District Court. Once the results of the blood draw are received, charges will be upgraded to Intoxication Assault if it is shown that he was under the influence of an intoxicant." -Constable Mark Herman
